I am a photographer who discovered glass bead making at Urban Glass in 2001. Working with fire and learning how to melt rods of colored glass and wrapping them around a stainless steel mandrel rod was challenging yet fascinating.....
I currently spend many hours at the torch sculpting and creating fun unique one of a kind glass beads. I’m drawn to the process of manipulating and transforming glass into beautiful pieces of wearable art. My experience in photography has helped me to be detail oriented and patient with the multi step process of creating beads. I love creating raised sculpted flowers and drawing delicate multicolored vine designs using thin rods which I pull from larger rods. I’m inspired by nature and I choose color combinations that remind me of plants and even animals. I often include powdered glass, frits, enamels, and mica powders in my bead making designs . In addition I love to experiment with adding metal inclusions in my beads, such as copper, silver, and gold because of the unique color reactions that take place when mixing glass with metals.
I’m currently working on a collection of fused glass jewelry, that combines glass with gold and leather.
